44 Days & Nights….and counting.

Heather Locklear

Locklear after 28 hours of WOTLK Beta

November 13th– only 44 days to go til the expansion comes out and I cannot wait. I’m <insert any adjective>! My focus in the coming weeks is to level up one of my alts- I have a mage, paladin, shaman and druid. My Paladin is the closest at 50 but I find them to be pretty darn boring, I may focus on my Mage (Husker) who is sitting at 45 (?). Tossing huge DPS bolts of Fire and.or. Ice has always been appealing to me…and the sound of “Arcane” damage maybe too cool to pass up. I just need some help from the guild/friends and will happily return the favor.  The new talent tree’s look promising as well as all the feedback from the BETA testers, Blizzard has a Gem on their hands so I hope they don’t go and f-it up. I was there when they killed Star Wars Galaxies, when EQ2 came out and when City of Heroes just simply lost it. We are talking about a completely different game company though with Blizzard…(knocks on wood).

New Loot Rules : details and explanations.

https://i2.wp.com/common.allakhazam.com/images/3/8/38b678349a36a0811b72dd55675b8085.png

Last week we had Sindan roll some particularly winsome rolls in Karazahn. He won 3 Epics in a row and one was a T4. The officers; Phrozen, Phreezin, Ivanvonivan and Tyiako all agreed it’s not fair that one person would get all the loot from a single run, I agreed. It’s not fair seeing loot drop and go to someone who needs it more or is more deserving*. We now have an updated loot guideline and rule as follows. I will also list out examples of what X factors may play into this. If you have issues with this new rule please talk to me or the listed officers above before going off the deep end and kill little kittens.

  • If an epic drops during Kara (specifically Kara) and it’s an item that will benefit you you may roll and if you win it you cannot roll again that night**. i.e. Tuesday fresh run and a your a priest and a healer item drops you roll against 2 other healers and win, that’s it for the night you cannot roll again. **If you are the only cloth healer and its class specific (no else needs it or rolls for it) then you CAN get the item. The ONE NIGHT rule does not apply if no one else needs it.
  • If you have alts like I do- and your class is needed, you can roll like anyone else. i.e. One night I’m on with my healer and I win a roll, later that run we need Devo my Lock for Oz or Shade – epic drops and I roll against another and win I still can roll.
  • If, god forbib…all night long all that drops is PLATE and we only have 1 Plate wearer, he/she can roll/win it outright without regard to the ONE Loot rule. Exception being if they do NOT need the item we will simply shard it.
  • Class Specific drop, new rule does NOT apply IF there is only one person in raid that can use it. i.e. Lastnight a Mage class epic dropped for Phreezin (frost spec) she was able to get the item because she was spec’d for it and it was class specific,– rule did not apply. If 3 mages rolled for it and needed it — rule  applies.

These new updates are hopefully an easy fix to a sometimes complex issue when raiding, we just want to ensure the guild has fair rules and for our guild core members to benefit for the time and effort they put into the game/guild.

This coming Saturday is the STV Arena Guild vs. Guild event at 5 pm ST. What this means is our “The Old School” guild will have set/mixed teams based on level vs. other teams from “The Old School Academy”. I will post more info tonight but basically you step into the arena and it’s game on. 5g or 10g entry fee for prizes (see/pst “Ivanvonivan” ingame for direct information) I believe the rules are simple- no Potions/Elixirs or Scrolls to be used and no outside healing (don’t think that’s possible…)

The art of sixty-nine..or Everyone Love’s a Log.

Congrats to our local token Colombian Logtar (not really token since he holds his own and is an enigma unto himself, just sounded cool) on hitting level 69 in the Wonderful World of Warcraft. Although he has been courted by his friends in the past to give WoW a whirl (using as many “W”‘s as I can), he refused knowing full well he may be addicted along with 11 million other players. Lo-and-behold I ask him to join our Old School guild and with some intimate conversations with his wife he joined up. So just over 4 months ago he started up a Warrior and lastnight hit the near current pinnacle of levels (until the expax). Most of his levels, the early and mid levels were groups, pugs and instances, the latter levels he mostly pugg’ed it or Solo quested. He did it the Old School way! Earned the levels by getting to KNOW his character, skills, talents both Protection and DPS. Some, if not everyone says that “It’s Just a Game” demeaning the value of games yet they do play them. I believe that games are more than games but direct relations and synergies one has in their ‘real lives’. He worked hard to achieve his goal. We as a guild work hard to achieve goals. MMO’s are goal oriented based games where one can directly see the result of cause and effect. That is why I think these type of games are so addicting, it’s relatively easy to level up and gear up as it has a built in social structure to do so AND social aspects incorporated into the game where one can make friends or enemies. Most people want to be good at whatever they do and these games allow you to do so despite obvious obstacles of physicality and social barriers. Logtar/John has come full circle with his MMO experience for WoW, he’s seen the good/bad and frackin ugly. I look forward to seeing him Main Tank and Off Tank for our guild. Great Work Log!

Street Date for WoW Wrath of the Lich King

November 13th 2008, usually Blizzard does not make such bold announcements but rather states “It’s ready, when it’s ready”. I will be out of town that week so I will miss the BUZZ, Lag and bitching/praising that will ensue for that week and beyond. I hope it’s as good as it looks!

God Particle

CERN pushed the ON button today and we seem to still  here on earth…..or are we? As the CERN scientists and collab’s get more and more comfortable smashing proton beams together they plan and increasing the energy. “Small steps Sparks, Small Steps”….~ Contact  I love the name they gave the particle they are trying to find or even better, not find. The God Particle. More links here and here.

While I have not a single clue on how they are doing this research I’m all for it even if they create a black hole, mini or not that swallows up the earth and our solar system, I wish I could be there to see it. Touring the 17 mile radius facility would be a great vacation, imo. Plus the chance we (Man) could alter reality or change the face of our planet?? That’s friggin cool!
